A Very Dramatic Evening

I am typing this on my cell, so I'll have to keep it a little short. Things were very dramatic this evening. We thought that Mom had been over medicated, that they were giving her too much opiates and that she could not wake up because of the drugs, thus not eating or drinking fluids. So then Shell called and said she was in a coma, where her eyes were non-responsive to light. We thought perhaps this was drug induced and Dr. Sue was giving us a lot of on the fly advice. She has been so great through-out this. So they gave her a shot of Narcan, which is a fast acting, 45 minute lasting, anti-opiate drug. As the drug took effect she was coming out of a deep stupor and the closer to conciousness she got, the more pain she felt. At least it seemed that way to us. Now the Narcan has worn off and she seems to be resting easier. She is still breathing more rapidly, but she is not moaning any more. So, we are all camped out by her bedside right now, just in case, but I don't think she will pass tonight. But I do think it will be soon. As of today she hasn't had fluids in 2 days and no real solid food for over 8 days. Our window of opportunity to fix this through alternate means may have passed, much more quickly than we ever realized it could.

So that is the news from here. A difficult time to be sure. But, still with much love around Mom.
