Second Day in Jacksonville

So I just got off the phone with Dad. Mom was already asleep.

Dad is all ready for the appointment tomorrow, and has a list of questions to run past the doctors there.

We're very concerned about Mom, as she has not eaten in about 4 days. She's had some liquid drinks, but not much in the way of solid food. He's going to ask them tomorrow if they can feed her intravenously, as long as it doesn't promote the cancer (apparently dextrose given to patients that haven't been eating actually promotes tumor growth).

If the Mayo Clinic can't recommend a course of action that will help Mom, then he's going to take her home and then up to the VA.

Tomorrow morning their first real appointment with the oncologist is at 8:30 am. They have reservations for 3-4 days in Jacksonville, and will stay as long as the hospital needs to run tests, and appropriately assess Mom's situation.

Although he thinks he may be headed back tomorrow, I think they will probably be there for a few days, and they will hopefully also be able to help Mom's lack of eating problem. Unfortunately the Megace is not helping her appetite. Also, he is trying to ween her off the morphine as well,
and use just the tramadol (pain killer).

That's about all the news. We reviewed over the phone the different questions about chemotherapy treatments, etc., but Dad seems to have it pretty well handled. He will call me again tomorrow at 6:00 pm PST with an update.

Cindy, I passed on your well-wishes to him, and he'll respond to your email when he get's home.
